WP13 - On The Road Again!

This time we are headed to Winter Park, CO for Avery's first ski trip!  Things will be a tad different this time around.  1 less 4 year old, 1 less toddler, 1 less awesome nanny to help us out, and 1 less broke down RV!  We head out Saturday morning and hope to make good enough time to visit with Kelly, Ryan, and baby Emery on our way.

GJW - Saturday Morning in LA

Well, today is Mirasol's wedding. We get to stay in the beautiful Hotel Figueroa in downtown LA while Caro, Grandma, and, Aunt Linda take care of the kiddos. The bridesmaids spent the morning getting manicures and pedicures while I wandered around downtown. I made it past the Staples center and on to the Fashion District and the Jewelry District. Much to my surprise, each place was a busy market place for cheap name brand knock-offs. I didn't do much shopping, but did stumble upon a Dunkin Donuts commercial shoot and a street parade celebrating something about Panama. I ended my walk with Lunch at the Yard House restaurant. The ladies are now busy with hair and make up.

GJW - Disneyland!

Today was a fantastic day. We got the RV toilet unclogged and off to Disney we went. I was a little reluctant because Adrienne and I had a sleepless night again in the RV, but we brought reinforcements. Adrienne's mom and aunt joined us and helped tend to Ian.

We started out in Fantasyland with the flying Dumbos. Adrian was afraid to get on at first, but quickly warmed up to the rides. We tried out lots of other rides even Thunder Mountain and Avery even braved Space Mountain!

All in all it was a great day and we can't wait for more.

GJW - Ups and downs

Today was a doozie! We landed in Balmorhea State Park around 11 last night. I 'slept' with Ian on a pull out for fear that he would fall off of it at some point. I succeeded in keeping him in bed, but failed miserably at getting any rest. Thankfully, Adrienne was nice and chipper for the kiddos this morning.

We found the playground and let the kids do their share of swinging and sliding, then took them for a dip in the pool fed by San Solomon Springs (think Barton Springs but bigger, less crowded, and with Mountains as a backdrop). After that, we headed back to the RV for a quick lunch and planned to hit the road again.

We had a little trouble with the generator yesterday, but assumed it was due to us getting down to a 1/4 tank of gas (novices). After many calls to our rental company and a really nice handy man from the park, we decided it was bigger than gas or a low battery. We finally got going again around two and luckily the kids went to sleep. We made it to Van Horn, TX where a mechanic met us to give us the not-so-great news. Turns out that the starter is bad and although we can still start it, it still isn't powering on the much needed appliances - fridge and a/c!

Needless to say, we made peace with little progress on the road today. We made the best of our time and bought more ice to keep the perishables cold. The kids were lively and fun with lots of songs, drawings, and their excitement about mountains, boulders, tumbleweeds, and of course, choo choo trains.

We settled in to Las Cruces KOA early tonight. Adrienne was a trooper behind the wheel with kids begging to be in the cab with her and driving through a sand storm! We are hoping to have the generator fixed tomorrow so we can continue on our way a little more comfortably.

I will add more pictures soon. Adrienne got some great shots at the springs.

GJW - On the road, finally!

After much ill-preparation we are finally headed west. We decided to skip the Grand Canyon this trip and stick to I-10 and campgrounds for the kids' sakes. Adrian and Avery are settled in watching Rio and Ian fell asleep before we got out of Austin.

A few photos below.
